Works conducted to contain damage of oil spill in Cuba

Havana, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) Authorities from the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment reported that efforts are being made to contain a 28,000-liter oil spill in a town of the western province of Matanzas.

According to an official statement, the incident occurred around 6:00 am, local time, on Sunday, June 13th, in the settlement of Horacio Rodriguez, Limonar municipality of the province.

As per the report, ‘between five thousand and seven thousand liters were able to be recovered at the site of the accident; while there is work being done today on the collection of what ran off to lower places’.

It also indicates that the causes and conditions of the event, as well as the environmental damage resulting from the spill will be assessed.

The crude was being transported by a Tranzmec team, a company belonging to Grupo Azucarero, Azcuba.
