Commenting on the role of Prensa Latina, founded on June 16, 1959, as part of the so-called Operation Truth in Havana, De Bonafini highlighted how its journalists have since known how to preserve the essence of this news institution.
After recalling its great promoters, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and Argentine-Cuban guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara, the outstanding human right leader stressed that during these last six decades, several generations of Prensa Latina reporters ‘have covered everything that has happened to us in the region.’
De Bonafini also evoked two great Argentines who gave life to Prensa Latina in the hard times of its founding, some few months after the revolutionary victory on January 1, 1959, its founder and first director, Jorge Ricardo Massetti, and renowned journalist and writer Rodolfo Walsh.
