Belgian associations call for Biden to lift US blockade against Cuba

Brussels, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) Belgian Associations in solidarity with Cuba on Saturday rolled out a bike caravan and a sit-in calling for President Joe Biden to immediately put an end to US blockade against Cuba.

Called by the Coordinator in Belgium against US blockade, dozens of people -carrying Cuban flags and chanting ‘President Biden Unblock Cuba NOW’- cycled across Brussels´ main streets.

After the bike caravan, the associations held a rally at the Central Station, one of Brussels´ crowded areas, which was attended by around a hundred citizens as well as Cubans and Latin Americans living in Belgium.

In addition to flags and banners calling for the immediate lifting of the economic, commercial and financial US blockade against Cuba, caravan organizers used a megaphone to explain the reasons why they were protesting, an incident that aroused the interest in some bystanders.

Speaking to Prensa Latina, Wim Leysens, member of the Coordinator’s Secretariat, said it is important not to overlook Joe Biden’s visit to Brussels to call for the end of the US blockade imposed on Cuba for over 60 years.

The US blockade must end. That´s enough! Sixty years have passed by and Cuban people are suffering. In addition, it is unacceptable amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Leysens stressed.
