In an official statement issued this Sunday by the entity, the member countries question the actions of the Swiss bank UBS, against this South American nation, stopping the payment of drugs that had to be acquired through the global access fund to injectables against the Covid-19 (Covax).

‘This illegal action is a consequence of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States government and its effects on the financial sector threaten the well-being, health, safety and right to life of the peoples,’ says the text.

It also recalls that all this is aimed at promoting a change of regime and the overthrow of a constitutionally, legally and legitimately elected government by the will of the people and in the exercise of their self-determination.

The ALBA-TCP, repudiates the punitive measures against Venezuelans and the Bolivarian Government and highlights the need for all human rights to be fully respected, especially life and health.

Likewise, it demands the immediate lifting of those unilateral coercive actions that prevent affected countries from effectively facing Covid-19.

Last Friday, President Nicolás Maduro demanded that Washington stop blocking Venezuela’s financial resources to advance in the acquisition of vaccines and accelerate the national immunization campaign.

Maduro described as a criminal action the retention in the Swiss bank UBS of the last four payments, for an amount of 10 million dollars, destined to complete the 120 million corresponding to the country’s commitments with Covax.

Venezuela canceled the entire financial amount established, which leaves the United Nations mechanism without excuses to send the antigens committed to the South American country, some 11 million doses, the president stressed then.
