US lawmakers grill FBI Director over inaction ahead of Capitol riot

Washington, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) US congressmen, especially Democrats, on Thursday lashed out at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for handling online information regarding deadly Jan. 6 insurrection at US Capitol.

During a hearing with FBI Director Christopher Wray, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, noted that Jan. 6 insurrection were openly orchestrated on social media and overlooked.

‘The FBI’s inaction in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6 is simply baffling,’ House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler said. ‘It is hard to tell whether FBI headquarters merely missed the evidence — which had been flagged by your field offices and was available online for all the world to see — or whether the Bureau saw the intelligence, underestimated the threat, and simply failed to act.’

Similarly, he claimed the need to ‘get to the bottom of the matter’ and reiterated that former President Donald Trump and his allies encouraged supporters to get involved in the insurrection.

Asked whether the FBI was probing Donald Trump or his associate Roger Stone for deeply involvement in Jan. 6 riots, Wray said he could neither confirm nor deny any FBI investigation.

Over 500 people are indicted so far for participating in the Jan. 6 attack, as hundreds of Trump´s supporters swarmed into Capitol in a failed attempt to prevent Joe Biden´s electoral victory as President of the United States.
