The demand, presented to the Commission of Foreign Affairs of the Lower House, requests that the Spanish government promote actions favorable to the lifting of the blockade.
The collective led by ‘Unidas Podemos’ and the members of the parliament issued a statement stressing that demanding the cessation of Washington’s coercive measures is needed more than ever due to the current economic and social crisis caused by Covid-19.
According to the Europa Press agency, the statement was signed by parties close to the administration of socialist Pedro Sanchez; to wit, ERC, EH Bildu, Junts, BNG, PNV, CUP and Compromís.
According to said statement, the blockade is not just the longest one in modern history, it ‘violates the purposes of the UN Charter’, and constitutes the most complex system of coercive measures imposed on a State.
The promoters of the ‘Non-Law Proposition’ considered that the White House and particularly Joe Biden could lead to a new stage of distension, and consequently, contribute to a possible elimination of the blockade.
