In a message on Twitter, the president said that he communicated with Castillo and expressed his desire to join efforts in favor of Latin America. We are deeply twinned nations, he noted.
Fernandez celebrated that the Peruvian people are facing the future in democracy and with institutional solidity.
According to the official count, candidate Castillo has today a lead of 71,441 votes against his opponent Keiko Fujimori, impossible to overcome, but he cannot be proclaimed due to massive challenges from his rival.
The National Jury of Elections (JNE), according to the law, can proclaim the winner at the end of the count or when the difference between the votes of the first place candidate is greater than those of the tally sheets to be verified, as in the current case.
