Presidential elections conclude in Mongolia

Ulan Bator, Jun 9 (Prensa Latina) The General Electoral Commission of Mongolia reported that the elections to elect the country's new president had concluded successfully today with a turnout of more than 50 percent.

The Montsame news agency indicated that the scrutiny process takes place throughout the country, and the final voter turnout and preliminary results of the elections are expected to be announced shortly.

With the latest amendments to Mongolia’s Constitution made in December 2019, the new president will be appointed for a single six-year term, rather than the four-year renewable term.

The top three contenders are U. Khurelsukh of the ruling Mongolian People’s Party, S. Erdene of the opposition Democratic Party, and D. Enkhbat of the Right-Wing Electoral Coalition.

All the polls carried out previously, and at the exit, made U. Khurelsukh the clear winner, although he said that candidates would wait for the information provided by the General Electoral Commission.
