The State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC) announced that 215,785 euros have been collected in Spain to date in order to purchase 2,589,430 syringes for Cuba’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign.
Sodepaz (Solidarity for Development and Peace), the main promoter of the initiative, stressed that the MESC’s goal is to collect three million syringes by June 23, as part of a campaign under the slogan ‘Blockades kill, your solidarity saves lives’.
At the same time, the MESC and the Federation of Associations of Cuban Residents in Spain said in a joint statement that a small group of right-wing members of the European Parliament are promoting maneuvers against Cuba.
‘In line with Washington’s policy and in coordination with the extremist groups of the Cuban-American extreme right, it will present, at the Plenary Assembly of the European Parliament, an item on the political and human rights situation in Cuba, in order to achieve an institutional condemnation against the island’, the associations said.
‘It is a new effort to manipulate the Cuban reality with a clear goal: to thin, obstruct and make fail the current European Union-Cuba Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement, which irritates so much’ those who wish to return to the EU’s failed Common Position on Cuba.
The idea of the right-wing European Parliament members takes place before Cuba’s foreseeable victory, on June 23, at the United Nations General Assembly, where the US blockade will be condemned again.
