Russia says people immunized with Sputnik V will need another vaccine

Moscow, Jun 8 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Health Minister Oleg Gridnev said on Tuesday that people who have been immunized with Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 might need another vaccine after some time.

Speaking at the State Duma (Lower House of the Russian Parliament), Gridnev noted that the country has other vaccines besides Sputnik V and increasing their production is as positive, TASS news agency reported.

He added that Russian scientists predict that after one year ‘a revaccination might be needed, with a vaccine other than Sputnik V’, which can be CoviVac or EpiVacCorona, the two other Russia-made vaccines, ‘but the research in this field is still underway.’

He added that the industrial production of Sputnik V is much higher at present, so its distribution and shipments in Russia are also larger.

The Russian deputy health minister also explained to the lawmakers that, according to studies, the single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine has had good results in the development of an immune response in young people.

Vaccination against the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus has been carried out in every Russian region since January 2021.
