According to Listin Diario daily, this was stated by PAHO’s Director of Communicable Diseases and Environmental Determinants, Marcos Espinal, who said that the first action should target Greater Santo Domingo, where there is a high number of hospitalizations and 65 percent of cases.
The expert also recommended to carry on vaccination of the population against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, especially the administration of the second shot, and praised the government’s work in this sense.
Espinal noted that speeding up the administration of the second shot is important because only 15 percent of the population has received it, and the vaccination schedule needs to be completed to ensure protection.
Finally, he said that, besides the parties, there are other factors that influence the high transmission of the virus in this capital, ‘the so many people that need buses, subways or the well-known conchos or popular taxis to go to work, and these means of transportation are crowded.’
