According to Belgian Marc Botenga, if MEPs who promote an initiative to discuss human rights in Cuba were really interested in this issue, they would be deeply concerned about analyzing the US blockade impact on Cuban people.
On Facebook, Marc Botenga claimed that the economic, commercial and financial US blockade is a violation of human rights.
Botenga said that what really bothers from Cuba are its successes in education and health sectors, its solidarity in times of Covid-19 and the creation of its own vaccines to face the pandemic, despite the US blockade and its consequences.
Instead of blindly following the United States, the EP should respect and develop the political talk and cooperation agreement between Cuba and the European Union (EU), he stressed.
Spanish MEP Manu Pineda also lashed out at the debate promoters, mainly at members of the Spanish right, in their attempt to accuse Cuba on human rights.
