On his Twitter account, the foreign minister expressed his country’s solidarity as a result of the accident and extended his condolences to the victims’ families.

On Monday, two express trains collided in Sindh province, in southern Pakistan, killing 63 people and injuring dozens, according to Sindh’s deputy commissioner, Usman Abdullah.

The Millat Express derailed and the Sir Syed Express hit it soon afterwards between the Raiti and Obaro stations, railway officials told Geo News.

Rescue operations at the scene of the accident extended well into the night, as several compartments of the train were crushed, hindering the work of specialized personnel.

Nearly 1,200 people were traveling on both trains, hence the magnitude of the disaster.

The causes of the accident are still unknown, but according to Federal Minister for Railways Azam Swati, the section where it occurred was really dangerous.
