A confrontation sharpened the differences between President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, after issuing mutual accusations for the delay in the formation of the executive.
For that reason, Berri’s offer to mitigate the discord that is delaying a solution to the worst economic crisis in the country in decades was in the background, The Daily Star reported.
The Aoun-Hariri tensions emerged after a meeting between the parliamentary speaker with the prime minister-designate, as part of efforts to push a 24-member cabinet proposal.
Aoun held Hariri responsible for deadlocking the process and trying to seize constitutional powers, while the prime minister-designate noted that the president is acting in line with the personal ambitions of his son-in-law, Gebran Bassil.
