Arrested in the city of Kecskemet, 120 kilometers south of this capital, the suspect is a Hungarian citizen who has been very active on the Internet on pages about jihadist propaganda.
Among his targets, according to the local Magyar Nemzet newspaper, would be one of the venues of the European Football Championship to be held here this month.
The director of the country’s Anti-Terrorist Center, Janos Hajdu, said on television that the detainee was planning two attacks, while investigations showed that he had acquired materials to prepare bombs that he would detonate at public events.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in this capital ordered the arrest and interrogated the individual, who is also charged with planning car bombings.
