United Nations calls for protection to Afghan civilians

Kabul, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations team in Afghanistan on Wednesday considered that the number of victims recently documented underlines the need for all parties to protect civilians from any damage.

Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General, told Ariana news agency that the UN Mission discovered that at least 23 civilians were killed and 49 were injured in seven incidents registered in the provinces of Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Sar-e-Pul, Parwan and Kapisa in three-day period last week.

The spokesman also claimed that many civilians are killed and injured by indirect fire from both the national Afghan army and the Taliban movement.

According to the UN, this organization shares its data with the parties involved in the conflict and calls on them to take all measures to protect civilians.

Meanwhile, Zabi Farhang, a spokesman for the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission, told Ariana that, in May alone, 280 civilians, including 109 children, were killed and another 634 were injured across the nation because of this conflict.
