In a statement sent to Prensa Latina, Dr. Branko Rakic offered his support for international actions for lifting the US blockade.
Dr. Rakic described the Cuban people as a great lover of freedom, who decided many years ago to eliminate the oppression regime and to found a society based on freedom and justice.
‘After the triumph of the great Cuban Revolution, the United States, major oppressor, decided to implement comprehensive coercive measures, especially economic ones, for over six decades,’ he stated.
The professor believed that the results of the hypocrisy behind these measures speak of the serious suffering caused to an entire people in the economic sector under the pretext of helping them because Cuban government is not good for Washington.
However, what I want to highlight the most is my admiration for the Cuban people, their love of freedom, justice and dignity.
Dr. Branko Rakic harped on that, among material and immaterial values, dignity is one of those weird virtues that no one can pull from someone and only the individual himself can or cannot provide it, which makes it a very precious quality.
‘And the Cuban people,’ he said, ‘decided during all these past years not to give anyone their dignity and with it they champion their freedom and just society they build for themselves.’
Rakic remarked that, with such a policy and stance of an entire nation, the Cuban people are an example to the world and a kind of sanctuary for all humanity.
I wish the Cubans all the best. I wish them to continue building up their free and just society, and I hope these long-standing US sanctions, against which they have faced up worthily and courageously, will be eliminated once and for all, he concluded.
