Odebrecht case in the Dominican Republic nearing its end

Santo Domingo, Jun 2 (Prensa Latina) The process that follows in the Dominican Republic those implicated in the Odebrecht case is nearing its end, prosecutor Mirna Ortiz said on Tuesday in this capital.

According to a press release from the Public Ministry, the Litigation Coordinator of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Persecution of Administrative Corruption stated: ‘the trial is coming to the end and with the harmonious union of the evidence presented in the process, the prosecution will demonstrate how the bribes were distributed and who received them ‘.

Likewise, she explained that in the current phase of the trial carried out in the First Collegiate Court of the National District, the evidence presented by the defendants is known. Later, she added, the parties will proceed with the closing arguments, which are the closing arguments to leave the court in a position to decide.

Finally, with regard to the investigation of the final files that several of the first defendants would have benefited from, she pointed out that the team responsible for the so-called Odebrecht 2.0 is in charge, an additional process with new evidence.

The Odebrecht case has continued in this country since 2017 and the defendants are tried for receiving bribes from the Brazilian construction company for the award of State works worth 92 million dollars.

The Brazilian construction company reached an agreement with the Attorney General’s Office for which it will have to pay this country 184 million dollars in various installments, double the amount paid in bribes.
