After the online meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the BRICS group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), Lavrov said the dialogue should be initiated by the military, according to Sputnik news agency.
The FM noted it should be taken into account that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has committed ‘very serious violations’ of agreements not to deploy significant military units in the territories of its new members.
Lavrov recalled that NATO had two years to analyze Russia’s concrete proposals in the military area, which have not been responded to by its command.
Those proposals provide for the establishment of territorial limits for Russian and NATO military aircraft and ships near the borders, as well as for the conduct of military exercises.
The minister deemed that considering Russian proposals could mean ‘a small, but concrete contribution to the de-escalation of the situation in practice.’
