It is a diplomatic letter sent nearly a month ago by the Secretariat of Foreign Relations to the US Department of State, in which it calls on the latter to clarify if the US Agency for International Development (USAID) will continue to fund Mexicans against Corruption to act against the government.
At his morning press conference at the National Palace, the president stressed that the US has not replied about the funds to that organization, led by opposition businessman Claudio X, whose broadcasting news agency is Articulo 19, which has benefited from the money sent by the US Embassy in Mexico.
Everybody knows that Washington gives them money, which is illegal in election times, but they should never do it and do not have to, the president said.
Lopez Obrador charged that this is an interference in the public life of an independent, free and sovereign country, and they have not even expressed or hinted that they will change, nor the beneficiaries have said they will not accept it. Both are silent and argue that they are not interfering when everybody knows they are.
Lopez Obrador said that the Joe Biden administration has not taken Mexico’s request seriously, so it is very regrettable, so he will continue to respectfully insist that they stop funding political groups in Mexico and other countries because they must respect peoples’ independence and self-determination.
This has more to do with the US Department of State and embassy, which distributed the money, and all the evidence is there.
