The general director of Bilateral Affairs at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), Emilio Lozada, and the general director for Central America and the Caribbean at the Department of Global Affairs of Canada, Sylvie Cesaratto, chaired the virtual meeting, during which the two parties referred to the historic ties that unite them, as well as the respect that characterizes their relations.
They also reviewed issues on the bilateral agenda, and expressed their willingness to move forward in strengthening economic, commercial, financial and cooperation links.
The Cuban delegation expressed its gratitude for Canada’s traditional support against the United States economic blockade and in favor of Cuba’s resolution, submitted every year to the United Nations General Assembly to end that unilateral measures.
On behalf of Cuba, present at the meeting were Ambassador to Canada Josefina Vidal, the deputy director general of the United States Department, Johana Tablada, and the director of the Europe and Canada Department, Gisela Garcia, among other officials from the Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Canadian delegation was made up of Ambassadorto to Cuba Perry John Calderwood, and the director for Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, Sebastien Sigouin, among other officials from Canada’s Foreign Ministry.
