According to JIT Digital, the competition, to be held online, will bring together chess players from more than 13 countries of the region, and will grant individual and team prizes until June 6.
In the contest, Cuban National Champion Albornoz will be accompanied by Jorge Elias Reyes, Augusto Campos, Leancy Fernandez, Rachel Palmero, Marcos Antonio Morales, Karla July Fernandez and Geidys Mantilla, who will play today, on May 29 and June 1.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 140 university students from 11 countries (Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Honduras, El Salvador, Peru and Jamaica) competed in the first edition of the FISU Americas of chess.
