Sudanese Government and guerrillas to resume peace talks

Khartoum, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Khartoum and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) will resume peace talks on Wednesday, May 26, in Juba, capital of South Sudan, sudantribune.com reported on Monday.

The talks will be a new step in the efforts to establish a process of detente, after the Sovereign Council and the SPLM-N, led by Abdel Aziz al Hilu, signed a declaration of principles on March 28 that establishes the separation between the State and religion, and the formation of a single national army at the end of the transition period.

Subsequently, South Sudan’s mediators stated that the two sides will resume negotiations on May 26.

During a meeting chaired on Sunday by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, the Supreme Peace Council discussed aspects of the upcoming negotiations, the development of which might end the conflict in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions.

A communiqué by Suleiman al-Dabailo, Chairman of the Peace Commission in Sudan, confirmed that all aspects related to the talks with the SPLM-N, led by al Hilu, were discussed during that meeting, and the Sudanese Government’s negotiating delegation will travel to Juba on Tuesday.
