South Korean president to boost deals with US

Seoul, May 24 (Prensa Latina) South Korean President Moon Jae In on Monday told members of his government to follow up on the deals reached in recent meeting with his United States counterpart, Joe Biden.

Moon convened a meeting with his advisors and Prime Minister Kim Boo Kyum, one day after returning from the United States, and instructed them to publish the deals reached during his stay in Washington, Yonhap news agency reported on Monday.

Among the commitments is work in conjunction to implement vaccine studies and partnerships in high-tech industries, such as semiconductors and high-storage capacity batteries.

The president described the summit as important, because in his view, it provided a stocktaking of the past 70 years of strategic partnership and projected ways for future development.

Regarding the situation in the Korean peninsula, the head of State was optimistic about the possibility of resuming talks with North Korea.

The president believes that Biden’s selection of Sung Kim, the current US Ambassador to Indonesia, as the new special envoy for Korean affairs reflects Seoul’s position that dialogue with Pyongyang should be resumed as soon as possible.
