Egyptian foreign minister visits Palestine

Ramallah, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met here on Monday with the President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), Mahmoud Abbas.

During the meeting at the presidential headquarters, the foreign minister repeated his country’s willingness to continue with the efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and promote a peace process towards a two-State solution.

‘The path of negotiation must be serious and constructive to achieve comprehensive peace that guarantees the establishment of the independent Palestinian State, within the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital,’ the head of Egyptian diplomacy noted, according to an official statement.

The minister also referred to Egypt’s continuous contacts with regional and international stakeholders in the interest of bringing about the revitalization of talks between Tel Aviv and Ramallah, as well as the steadfast position of supporting the legitimate rights of the ‘sisterly Palestinian nation.’

Shoukry further stressed the need to end all practices from both sides that undermine the prospects for peace and lead to further escalation, including in Jerusalem.

President Abbas, meanwhile, thanked the Egyptian Government and people for their historic support for the Palestinian cause and Arab rights.

Special recognition from the Palestinian leader deserved the success of the Egyptian mediators in resolving the war crisis inside Gaza and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative to provide 500 million dollars for the reconstruction of the coastal enclave.
