The Cuban healthcare information network, Infomed, stressed that the objective of this celebration is to disclose to public in general what the work of research consists to obtain a vaccine or a medicine.

This date was chosen as a tribute to the first clinical trial in history conducted by Scottish physician James Lind in 1747, which laid the foundation for modern clinical research.

The Cuban Ministry of Public Health explained that a clinical trial is a research methodology that is carried out with the participation of human beings as volunteers to test the effect of an intervention including drugs, cells and other biological products.

Cuba is currently developing five anti-Covid-19 vaccine candidates and uses several of its own medications to care for people diagnosed with the coronavirus, all supported by scientific studies on which health authorities and researchers have offered detailed information to the population.
