As British Brexit Minister David Frost stated before a parliamentary committee, the bloc is not complying with its obligation of reducing trade barriers for goods arriving in the Northern Ireland from the rest of Britain.
We need to have a sensitive discussion about the risk and real problems that this over-process is creating, and unfortunately we haven’t had such a conversation yet, said Lord Frost, who led post-Brexit deal negotiations between London and Brussels.
As part of the so-called Northern Ireland Protocol that came into force after UK’s definitive withdrawal from the EU (Brexit) in December, the British province remains within the single market and the European customs union, in order to avoid border checks of goods being transferred between the two Irelands.
The controversial document establishes, however, that all products stemming from Great Britain have to be subjected to controls to check whether they comply with health regulations established by the EU before entering Northern Ireland.
