Austrian Health Ministry halted use of AstraZeneca vaccine

Vienna, May 18 (Prensa Latina) The Austrian Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced the gradual suspension of AstraZeneca's Covid-19 vaccine from immunization against the disease.

Three European nations have so far refused to use. Norway and Denmark did it before. Austrian Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein told Plus 24 channel that whoever has already received the first dose of the vaccine will also be inoculated with a second one.

In March, several European countries such as France, Italy, Sweden and Germany, limited the use of the Anglo-Swedish Covid-19 vaccine after a series of reports that some vaccinated people developed blood clots.

In those days, WHO stated that the available data did not suggest any general increase in coagulation such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism after the vaccine was administered.

The benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine outweigh its risks, so we recommend vaccinations continue,’ the global health agency’s statement read.
