At a virtual press conference, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Director Carissa Etienne confirmed this is a clear sign of the ‘remote possibility of curbing Covid-19 transmission, even when some nations like the United States have been reporting fewer cases.’
During the last week, the Americas reported over 1.2 million Covid-19 cases and nearly 34,000 deaths.
Etienne said that Canada is lately reporting increased coronavirus case rates, and in Caribbean nations like Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba have been also reporting significant figures in recent days.
Also, South America coronavirus cases are increasing in Guyana, Bolivia and Colombia.
The PAHO director warned that regional health workers are currently facing growing challenges, as supplies such as oxygen are depleted due to hospital collapse.
