The head of the Cuban medical mission in Qatar, Ernesto Lopez, informed Prensa Latina on Thursday that the award for the work of Cuba’s nursing staff was presented by the ambassador, Deepak Mittal, aimed at highlighting the exceptional Cuban leadership in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is the second time that India honors members of the Cuban medical brigade, as earlier in May, Hernandez representing the team received a recognition from the Nurses Association of Qatar for the support provided to its population during the pandemic.
Between expatriates and those born in Qatar, there are just over 690,000 people from that country, representing 25 percent of the total population, making it the largest group of foreigners, followed by Pakistanis and Bangladeshis.
Since April 2021, the Cuban hospital in Dukhan has been dedicated exclusively to the care of Covid-19 patients.
