Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said that the central Government will use the law to hold them accountable for their actions and ensure the peaceful development of the relations between Taipei and Beijing.
Zhu criticized Taiwanese leaders for using participation in the Assembly and the Covid-19 pandemic as a pretext to seek attention and support from the international community to the secessionist purposes.
She also accused them of prioritizing their political interests over the welfare of the population, after recalling that the pro-independence stance of the current administration has deteriorated interactions between Taiwan and mainland China.
The international community approved with 170 votes a resolution in 1971 that recognizes the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representative of China to the United Nations and the island of Taiwan as an inalienable part of the Chinese nation.
