Cuban Embassy in Ukraine praises Victory Day (+ Photos)

Kiev, May 10 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Embassy in Ukraine praised Victory Day over Fascism and paid tribute to the heroes and victims of World War II (1939-1945), diplomatic sources noted on Monday.

Along with directors and members of Ukraine’s ‘Stop the Blockade’ Committee, Cuban diplomats laid wreaths on Sunday at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Kiev, and met with Ukrainian veterans of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

Later, they took flowers to the Mound of Immortality at Victory Park, where they were accompanied by Maxim Goldarb and Vasily Volga, leaders of the Union of Left Forces of Ukraine.

At the monument, called ‘Mother saying goodbye to her son who goes off to war,’ Cuban Ambassador to Ukraine Natacha Diaz, reiterated the Cuban people’s gratitude to all those who fell fighting Nazism.

Soviet soldiers not only defended their country, but liberated Europe from the fascist invasion.

Ukraine was a republic of the Soviet Union, where more than 27 million people were killed in the war.
