Russia celebrates Victory Day with traditional parade

Moscow, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Russia is celebrating the 76th anniversary of the Victory Day over Nazism with its traditional parade in the Red Square of Moscow.

The event will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Tajik counterpart, Emomali Rajmon, who is visiting the country, as well as senior figures from the Russian government and veterans of the war.

It is expected that the military parade, which will be carried out under strict sanitary measures and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 local time, will involve more than 12,000 soldiers and about 200 vehicles, in addition to 76 helicopters and airplanes.

Mi-26 heavy transport helicopters will fly over the Red Square for the first time, followed by Mi-17s and Mi-35s, the Russia Today television network announced.

The date is the occasion for commemoration of the triumph of the Soviet Union and the troops of the allied countries over Nazi Germany in World War II (1939-1945).

In addition to Russia, most of the former Soviet republics, who were also protagonists and victims in the confrontation with Nazism, commemorate Victory Day.
