Russia may fine Twitter, Google and Facebook once again

Moscow, May 5 (Prensa Latina) Google and Facebook may be fined another 20 million rubles (about 267,000 US dollars) for refusing to remove banned information at the request of the Russian regulatory agency Roskomnadzor, a court in Moscow reported.

Twitter faces a fine of 24 million rubles ($320,000) for a similar violation, as announced to the TASS news agency by the 422nd district of the Moscow World Court, which received administrative protocols against said companies.

In the cases of Google and Facebook, the court received five complaints for not removing information from the internet when the obligation to do so is provided for by legislation of the Russian Federation.

In relation to Twitter, the court indicated that six similar accusations were presented, for which the companies are facing up to four million roubles (53,333 dollars) in fines for each of the complaints, if the courts rule against it.

The 422nd world court in Moscow’s Tagansky district fined Twitter 8.9 million rubles (about $11,550) in early April in three administrative cases for refusing to remove information inciting minors to participate in illegal actions.

The US company has already filed complaints about these decisions with the Russian Federal Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media Supervision Service (Roskomnadzor).

The regulatory department also developed similar administrative protocols in relation to Facebook, Google and Telegram.
