The assassination happened when a group of armed men shot the victims at a pub in the municipality of Restrepo, in the department of Valle del Cauca.

This murderous action did coincide with the worsening of the national political crisis due to marches and other popular acts of protest against a tax reform project.

Colombia has been long facing this type of violent acts, as well as the murder of former rebels, social leaders, opponents and defenders of human rights.
