Behind closed doors, and only with take-out food, this renowned establishment celebrated its 79th anniversary on April 26. Many people who have enjoyed its food and enthralling Bohemian ambiance sent congratulatory messages.
Located in Old Havana, the city’s historic center declared World Heritage Site in 1982 by UNESCO, the restaurant opened on April 26, 1942, and quickly became the preferred eatery for many locals, particulary intellectuals.
Throughout its history, the restaurant received visits from numerous personalities such as Gabriela Mistral, Agustin Lara, Pablo Neruda, Salvador Allende, Ernest Hemingway and Nicolas Guillen.
