HispanTV website reproduced some remarks by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh about a Tehran’s welcome to what was expressed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to seek a good and special relation. Khatibzadeh was referring to an interview given by bin Salman to his country’s television, in which he avoided his usual criticism to Iran.
According to the spokesman, ‘adopting constructive positions, the two countries can enter a new chapter of interaction and cooperation to achieve peace, stability and regional development and overcome differences.’
Engaged in a struggle for dominance in the area, Tehran cut ties with Riyadh in 2016 after demonstrations in Iran against Saudi diplomatic missions protesting the execution in the kingdom of Shiite cleric Nimr Baqir al-Nimr.
Reports confirmed by unidentified sources revealed that both nations held a meeting on April 9 under the auspices of Iraq.
