According to the health agency, the first coronavirus variant case was reported in the department of Lot and Garonne, after an Indian patient tested positive.
On Tuesday, Health Minister Olivier Véran said that France has not reported any new B.1.617 strain case, which could be related to India´s increased daily cases (over 300,000).
However, Benoît Elleboode, director general of the regional health agency, told BFM TV channel he doubts it is actually the first new variant case detected in France.
Elleboode added that a second patient, who came from India, was suspect of B.1.617 contagion.
