Evo Morales repudiates European Parliament resolution

La Paz, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia's former president and leader of the Movement Towards Socialism, Evo Morales, on Thursday repudiated the motion approved by the European Parliament in favor of the release of the former de facto governor Jeanine Añez.

The ultra-right of the European Parliament confirms with its resolution complicity in the coup d’état and in a clear interventionist attitude asks for impunity and to forget the Sacaba’s (Cochabamba) and Senkata’s (El Alto, La Paz) deaths, Morales denounced on Twitter.

The Bolivian people have memory and dignity, justice must fulfill its constitutional role, recalled Morales, who was at the head of the country’s administration from 2006 until November 2019 when he was forced to resign from office, by a coup maneuver that resulted in a de facto government headed by Añez.

After learning on Wednesday about a session of the European Union’s (EU) MPs to consider the issue, the leader described the initiative as interventionist and deemed that it promotes impunity for the victims and serious human rights violations.

The resolution adopted on Thursday, which proposes a framework of ‘transparent and impartial justice’ to clarify the incidents, had the favorable vote of 396 members of that body, the rejection of 267 and 28 abstentions.

The members of the European Parliament who intend to question Bolivia at the request of opposition sectors, do not have the capacity or legal competence to sanction anything, warned earlier to Bolivian media the legislator Manu Pineda, of the Confederal Group of the European United Left/Nordic Green Left.
