If it were really a pretext as some people say, why maintain this insult to democracy and the Cuban people’s right to decide on their fate, wondered the organization, founded in 1995 in La lettre electronique Hebdo, a weekly publication to inform French people about Cuba’s truth.
In that sense, CubaCoop stressed that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States represents a reality that can be verified daily by each Cuban citizen.
The association enrolled in dozens of cooperation projects in Cuba in the last two decades denounced the tightening of the blockade in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, and referred to more than 240 hostile measures decreed by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021).
These actions, implemented at a dramatic time, sought to plunge the population into poverty and bring the country’s political system to its knees, the association condemned.
CubaCoop particularly repudiated that with the reinforcement of the blockade by the previous US Government, Cuba finds many obstacles to fight Covid-19, even affecting the purchase of lung ventilators, masks, diagnostic tests and other fundamental resources.
CubaCoop also highlighted several initiatives by French organizations to help Cuba, including raising funds by the Cuba Linda and France Cuba associations to purchase syringes and needles for Covid-19 vaccination and sending a container by Cuba Si France with hygiene articles for women.
