Lavrov recalled his visit to Mexico in February 2020, during the 130th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The Russian diplomat highlighted that Ebrard is visiting Moscow on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s independence, the 700th anniversary of its capital city and the upcoming celebration in Russia, on May 9, of the 76th anniversary of the victory over German fascism and the end of World War II.
On his part, the head of Mexican diplomacy conveyed a greeting from President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, and his gratitude for the support provided in the fight against Covid-19. ‘They have shown us to be true friends,’ he pointed out.
According to Mexican sources, Ebrard has began his official visit to Moscow, urged by the need that the shipments of Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine reach his country more quickly.
Ebrard will also meet with representatives of the Gamaleya Scientific Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, which developed Sputnik V, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund, in charge of its commercialization.
The Mexican foreign secretary will also meet with senior Russian officials about the possibility of strengthening scientific and technological collaboration.
