Catalonia’s authorities search for remains of Cuban reporter (+ Photos)

Madrid, Apr 28 (Prensa Latina) Catalonia's authorities began on Wednesday the work of opening a common grave in a cemetery where, according to historic testimonies, the Cuban revolutionary writer Pablo de la Torriente Brau could be buried.

Catalonia's authorities search for remains of Cuban reporterDe la Torriente Brau was killed on December 19, 1936 during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), fighting on the Republican front in Majadahonda (Madrid).

Initially buried in the Madrid cemetery of Chamartin, in June 1937 he was transferred to a niche in the cemetery of Montjuic, in Barcelona, from where it was intended to ship him to Cuba.

If oral testimonies are true, including that of an undertaker that place the poet in such grave, his mortal remains could be recovered and, once matched with his relatives’ DNA provided by Cuba, be transferred to his country to receive burial.
