In a virtual meeting, Giammattei agreed with Harris on the need to ‘raise new hopes’, which will be achieved by providing Guatemalans with much more opportunities, he said.
‘Rest assured that Guatemala is deeply interested in being a partner with the United States and wiping out poverty and many other causes,’ Giammattei stated.
Violence, poverty, none-economic openings, extreme climate, governance, indigenous peoples and corruption were the main issues discussed on Monday’s agenda.
In interviews with US media, Giammattei stressed the significance of boosting ‘walls of prosperity with the US’ in order to generate development openings for Guatemalans, and to strengthen trade and employment.
These options could help to prevent irregular migration, according to the president, who also spoke out for working on visa programs and investments in Guatemala’s agriculture.
