After the refusal on Monday night by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) to authorize the reception of the Russian vaccine in Ceara and other states, Santana commented on social networks that he received the news with ‘disappointment and surprise’, even more so when the Scientific Committee of the Northeast was in favor of the use of Sputnik V.
He stressed that he will never accept that ‘there is some kind of politicization of this process. This is absolutely unacceptable.’
The governor pointed out that he will continue ‘to fight for this authorization, with security and following all the regulations, so that we can bring the vaccine to our population as soon as possible, especially given the slowness of the federal government.’
All ANVISA councilors voted against the authorization at a meeting on Monday, after hearing opinions from the technical areas and speaker Alex Campos.
The decision was based on an alleged lack of documentary evidence of the safety of the vaccine and the possibility of manufacturing faults by the producer.
