Japan reiterates security for Tokyo Olympic Games

Tokyo, Apr 23 (Prensa Latina) Japan's Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga on Friday said that his government will take measures to ensure that the Tokyo Olympic Games are safe and secure.

The head of Government assured so declaring on Friday the third state of emergency in Tokyo and three other prefectures, amid a peak of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Sports authorities indicated that all facilities are ready for use, but the epidemiological situation remains alarming.

This scenario has already affected the presence of spectators at the venues where the summer event will be held, which will not be attended by foreign public after the ban decreed by the Japanese government in such regard.

In the meantime, Suga asked the public to refrain from making non-essential excursions, and pledged to provide financial support to companies whose profits are significantly affected due to the government’s requests to shorten hours or close temporarily.

This third state of emergency follows those enacted in April 2020 and January 2021, while previous measures issued for Miyagi and Okinawa prefectures will remain in force until May 11, beyond the original deadline.
