It aims to improve the synergies between social protection and the management of public finances, State Minister for Social Affair, Carolina Cergueira, said at the launching of this initiative, in whose implementation the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will participate.
She said that the European Union and other partners are collaborating with non-contributory programs funded by the government, which shows the priority given to the fight against poverty and the munipalization of social assistance to the most vulnerable families.
The project, presented on Friday, will last three years and it should have a positive impact on the level of social protection coverage in compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2018-2022 national development plan, the official explained.
Cerqueira thanked ILO and UNICEF’s support and insisted on the need of strengthening the ability of public institutions to increase the budget and improve the provision of social protection services, with a rational and effective use of resources.
