Revolutionary diplomacy pays tribute to its martyrs, faithful to the principles and legacy, the foreign minister posted on Twitter.
Both officials were killed in a terrorist action that was part of a wave of more than 150 attacks against diplomatic missions and Cuban targets in some 20 countries.
On April 22, 1976, at the time when the officials’ children were returning from school in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, a highly destructive bomb exploded.
in 1975 and 1976, the campaign included the detonation of explosives at Cuba’s diplomatic missions in Peru, Mexico, New York and other places, as well as the mid-air explosion of a Cubana de Aviacion airplane with 73 passengers on board on October 6, 1976.
Faced with this atrocious action in Portugal, a wave of solidarity with the Cuban people rose in Lisbon and hundreds of Portuguese citizens immediately gathered outside the Embassy to express their rejection of that crime and to support of the Cubans, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
