According to a tweet from the Presidency, the highest political leadership in that territory held the meeting to reshuffle leaders after the promotion of Felix Duarte Ortega, who was the PCC first secretary in the province, to the Secretariat of the Party’s Central Committee.
The government’s website reported that Maride Fernandez Lopez was appointed first PCC secretary in the province.
The appointment took place a few days after the closure of the 8th PCC Congress, at which 300 delegates debated key issues for the country’s life, and approved the guiding documents for the economic and social development of Cuba.
The meeting coincided with the 202nd anniversary of the founding of the city of Cienfuegos, on April 22, 1819, by French settlers.
The historic urban center of Cienfuegos was declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
