Army General Mahamat Idriss Deby, 37, will be the head of the armed forces in addition to the functions of interim president, according to the announcement made by the Presidency.
Hours ago, the new president appointed by decree 14 generals who will occupy a seat in the Council until the election of the next government.
The death of President Déby Ito in a medical center in the capital, due to injuries sustained in a combat against insurgents created a situation of uncertainty in this impoverished Central African country, although the establishment of the Council and the appointment of a transitional president has dispelled that uncertainty.
After the news about the president’s death, the Army leadership announced that it was assuming control of the country and dissolved the government and parliament.
