Colombia and Argentina are arranging the 47th edition of the continental tournament, postponed from its initial date in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this year it is scheduled to be held from June 13 to July 10.
Colombia’s President Ivan Duque announced the measure during a speech on Tuesday evening, and explained that it was due to the complex health crisis in the country and the opinion of epidemiological experts.
Therefore, the authorities decided to close the access of fans to the Roberto Melendez stadium in Barranquilla, usual home of the national team; Atanasio Girardot, in Medellin; Pascual Guerrero, in Cali, and El Campin, in Bogota.
However, Colombia’s Minister of Sports Ernesto Lucena assured that the Copa America ‘is stronger than ever thanks to the teamwork with Argentina, CONMEBOL and the Colombian Football Federation.’
